FAQ

  • Q.Can I play my music while running Distance Meter?
Absolutely! Simply start up the iPod app first, start playing your music then start Distance Meter. Your music will continue to play in the background. You can even bring up the iPod controls within Distance Meter by double clicking the home button!
  • Q.Can I lock the screen after Distance Meter has started?
No! You must leave Distance Meter on the main screen and running during your workout. If you lock the screen and put the iPhone to sleep Distance Meter will stop working. The newest version of Distance Meter has a built in screen lock feature, simply press the “screen lock” button on the top left portion of the screen.
  • Q.Why does my iPhone not go to sleep when Distance meter is running?
Apple has designed the iPhone OS so that all applications stop running after the iPhone goes to “sleep.” Due to the nature of Distance meter it must always be running in order for it to receive updates from the GPS, and show you an accurate distance. Therefore, when you run Distance Meter it automatically disables Auto-Lock for you. Rest assured that when you quite Distance Meter Auto-Lock goes back to your saved setting.
  • Q.What does the distance filter do in the options?
The distance filter sets the distance you must move before Distance meter makes an update to the distance traveled. This setting has a default value of one meter. Increasing it might improve your accuracy especially if the GPS signal is low.
  • Q. Why does Distance Meter only run on the iPhone 3G?
Distance meter requires very accurate location information that only the iPhone 3G with its built in GPS chip can provide. The original iPhone uses cell towers to find your location, which is only accurate to a couple hundred feet at best.
  • Q.Why does it take so long before GPS information is retrieved?
When you first start Distance meter it locks onto the GPS satellites, and waits until it has the best possible signal before it lets you press the Start button. This is to ensure very good accuracy. This may take up to a minute so be patient!
  • Q. Im waiting but it still shows GPS information is being retrieved.
If Distance Meter keeps saying GPS information is being retrieved please try these steps. First make sure you have Distance Meter installed on a 3G iPhone, have your wifi turned off, and Location Services are enabled in the General tab of Settings. If this does not resolve your issue then Distance Meter was not installed properly. Delete Distance meter and shut down your iPhone. Restart it and download Distance meter through iTunes (you will not be charged again) connect your iPhone and let Distance Meter install. Once install is complete, shutdown and restart your iPhone again and start Distance Meter.
